Breaking Barriers: Menstrual Health Management in Gatsibo

At Kundwa Health, we believe no girl or woman should be held back simply because she menstruates. This vision guided our two-day Menstrual Health Management (MHM) workshop held on 27–28 June 2022 in Kiramuruzi sector, Gatsibo District.

The workshop brought together adolescent girls, young women, and community members to learn, share, and build practical skills. For too long, menstrual health has been surrounded by stigma, silence, and limited access to affordable sanitary products. Many girls miss school or face discrimination simply because of a natural biological process.

Through this initiative, we not only provided knowledge on menstrual health management but also trained participants in making reusable sanitary pads. These skills provide girls and women with both dignity and independence, alleviating financial strain on families while promoting sustainable solutions.

The response from participants was inspiring. One young woman shared how making her own reusable pads would save her money and help her support her younger sisters. Others spoke about the confidence that comes from breaking myths and having open conversations about menstrual health.

This workshop was part of our ongoing commitment to #EndPeriodPoverty and ensure that by 2030, no girl’s education, health, or future is limited by menstruation.

At Kundwa Health, we are committed to building a Rwanda where young people are empowered with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to thrive  every day of the month.
